LinkedIn Outreach vs LinkedIn Ads: Which Generates Better B2B Meetings?

Every B2B company eventually asks the same question: should we invest in LinkedIn Ads or LinkedIn outreach to fill the pipeline? Having run both for clients across 20+ industries, the honest answer is that they solve different problems, and most companies pick the wrong one first.

What LinkedIn Ads do well

Ads are excellent for brand awareness and retargeting. If you need to put your company name in front of 50,000 CFOs in the manufacturing sector, ads will do that. They are also effective when you have strong content assets like webinars, reports, and case studies, and need distribution at scale.

But here is the problem for most B2B companies: LinkedIn Ads generate leads, not meetings. A lead who downloaded your whitepaper is not the same as a decision-maker who agreed to a 30-minute call. The gap between those two outcomes is enormous, and most companies do not have the internal SDR team to bridge it.

Cost is the other factor. LinkedIn CPMs are the highest of any social platform. For many B2B companies, especially those selling high-ticket solutions, the cost per qualified meeting through ads can run $500 to $2,000 or more.

What LinkedIn outreach does differently

Outreach skips the funnel entirely. Instead of attracting anonymous traffic and hoping some percentage converts, outreach goes directly to the specific person you want to meet: by name, by title, by company. There is no lead nurturing sequence. The goal from message one is a conversation.

The economics are different too. A well-run outreach campaign targeting 1,600 companies over six months, with manual data research and personalized messaging, will typically generate 100 to 200 qualified conversations. The cost per meeting drops significantly compared to ads, especially for companies with average deal sizes above $10,000.

When to use which

Use ads when you need awareness at scale, have a content engine that produces assets worth distributing, and have an SDR team to follow up on leads. Use outreach when you know exactly who your buyers are, want meetings (not just leads), and need results within 60 to 90 days.

The best approach for most B2B companies with deal sizes above $5,000 is outreach first to build pipeline, then ads for retargeting people who have already seen your outreach but have not responded. The two channels reinforce each other.
